atmospheric splurge

found this very 'studiogypsy' couch and rocker at a local thrift store that i frequent...and just could not pass it up! tho it is not a true antique, still had to splurge a little for my studio's atmosphere. i am planning on hosting some little art parties/workshops and i am a firm believer in atmosphere. the atmosphere that one creates in is essential to the type of art being created. i want my atmosphere to be warm and inviting and magical - allowing friends the freedom to play and to wonder in their creations. do you have any atmospheric items in your studio?

  1. I love it Leilani! I used to have a green one just like that and I got rid of it!( I now regret it).
My one piece is the mattress of a futon that I have in a corner like a chaise covered with indian mirror embroidery pillows...
I want to come sit on it!

I can imagine ladies sitting on the sofa now with their tieras and magical wands in their tu tu dresses discussing all of the frogs that they have kissed!

  3. Major Cool Beans, having people over to create sounds wonderful. Part of my atmosphere is a whatever tree that sits in a corner of my bay window, my Elsie string(that's where i got the idea). I turned a little shelf over on it's side and placed an empty rooster cookie jar complete with propeller hat, an old seal skin pillow, an empty eggnog carton, a mug with an angel for the handle, a yellow Nortroms box, a striped Cheese Cake Factory box and one of my 5# storage barrels half full with yellow and orange ribbon and string bits. I also have a captains bench that I found at a garage sale years ago- the seat is made with oiled down brown leather and has a handle in the center(with brass nubby tacks) for quick moving on a boat,I tried bleaching and every other thing I could think of but it still carries the blood splatters. Happy happies Leilani.
