i've been encouraged. by a friend. it is the season of LENT. so for the first time - we are doing our own unique version of the Lenten Tree with the rascals - i am calling it a Lenten Bouquet. :) it started last Wednesday (we got started on it Friday) but it is very simple - you could totally catch up and join in if you'd like.
SHE SAYS IT BEAUTIFULLY HERE but we are following THESE SYMBOLS HERE.
to make the bouquet - this is what we're doing:
a tall mason jar. colorful duct tape. scissors. the SYMBOL PLAN printout. 42 bottle caps or small lids. 42 small dowels or bamboo skewers. tacky glue. white paint, paintbrush. imagination, wonder, and random materials!
first - paint all your caps/lids white on the insides. set aside to dry. then gather the kiddos.
now to catch up - read a bit, find something that represents the symbols or draw them out and glue them into the caps. then cut some colorful duct tape and fix to the tip of the bamboo skewer/dowel against the back of bottle cap. sundays are skip days. :) you could color or paint the sticks up too.
our days so far.. 1: FAITH - mustard seed (actually a pepper seed - couldn't find a mustard one) with my 4yo. 2: CREATION - drawing of the world by my 11yo. 3: THE FALL - black yarn for a snake instead of an apple by my 9yo. 4: GOD'S PROMISE - drawing of a boat for noah's ark by my 7yo.
You could search the internet for more images of trees and ideas and this is also another free resource: CLICK HERE.

I love the bottle cap idea, Leilani! What a great idea. Your Lenten Bouquet will be so full of symbols by Easter. : )
